Del Rey and Lucasfilm Press announced the development of four new novels in the Star Wars canon.
Star Wars Brotherhood, written by Mike Chen, is the first to be released on May 10, 2022. The storyline harkens back to a line in Revenge of the Sith when Obi-Wan joked that of the many times Anakin saved his life, the incident on Cato Neimoidia didn’t count. Set during the advent of the Clone Wars, the action follows Anakin as he rises to the rank of Jedi Knight. Now on equal footing with his master, Skywalker disobeys Council orders and joins Obi-Wan Kenobi in his investigation of a terror attack on Cato Nemoidia, much to his chagrin.
Shadow of the Sith, written by Adam Christopher, will be released on June 28, 2022. Set in 21 ABY (21 years after the Battle of Yavin), the novel chronicles the adventures of Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian’s as they search for the planet Exegol in their hunt for Jedi assassin Ochi of Bestoon. Christopher tweeted about the inspiration for his work in progress: “Okay! Three things about #StarWars SHADOW OF THE SITH that I can say that won’t get me into trouble with @eschaefer or @msiglain! 1/3 1. Influences? @MWStover’s REVENGE OF THE SITH (and others!), @MikeStackpole’s X-WING (and others!), @CharlesSoule’s LIGHT OF THE JEDI.”
The titles by Lucasfilm Press are targeted toward a younger audience. Stories of Jedi & Sith, an anthology series has 10 authors: Roseanne A. Brown, Sarwat Chadda, Delilah S. Dawson, Tessa Gratton, Michael Kogge, Sam Maggs, Michael Moreci, Alex Segura, Vera Strange, Karen Strong, with illustrations by Jake Bartok. The struggle between light and dark will hit the shelves on June 7, 2022.
Padawan, by Kiersten White, focuses on Obi-Wan Kenobi’s tenure as a teen padawan to Qui-Gon Jinn. Frustrated by Qui-Gon’s meditative teaching methods and his divided attention, Obi-Wan leaves for an adventure of his own. The young Padawan lands on a remote planet populated by unsupervised teens with a mysterious connection to the force. Padawan will be available on July 26, 2022.
Star Wars fans will have plenty of reading material to enjoy while waiting for the newest spinoffs and series to air.
