We now have new details on the Walt Disney Animation Studios project following Encanto.
According to Discussing Film, the next Disney animated feature film in development will be directed by Don Hall and will be released in Fall 2022. This will be Disney’s 61st animated picture, and it will most likely replace the previously planned November 22 release date.
Hall co-directed Raya and the Last Dragon, Winnie the Pooh, and Big Hero 6, the last of which he won an Academy Award. He’s currently working on the Disney+ series Baymax!, which is based on the Oscar-winning film and will be released next year.
Qui Nguyen, the writer of Raya and the Last Dragon, penned the script. Roy Conli (Big Hero 6) will produce with Jennifer Lee as executive producer.
Ethan, a 14-year-old bi-racial (Caucasian/African-American) protagonist, is the primary character in the film. To perform the role, the studio is looking for voiceover talent aged 18 and over.
According to the logline, Ethan “sounds very typical as far as teenagers go. Playful and quick-witted, but can also retreat. The actor VOICING him should be FUNNY, LIKABLE, & SOUND LIKE A 14 YR OLD, but also possess the ability to quickly turn inward and show us a SOFT EMOTIONAL SIDE.”
The film’s auditions began on May 31, and production officially began on July 1.
