‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Director Purposefully Didn’t Collaborate With Other Marvel Directors

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier arrives this Friday on Disney+. Following the worldwide success of WandaVision, director Kari Skogland hopes to bring her own “very grounded and very authentic” series to the forefront of Marvel’s Phase Four storytelling.

In an interview with Inverse, Skogland explains the reason why she kept her series more self-contained from other Marvel filmmakers compared to WandaVision director Matt Shakman’s experience:

WandaVision was so different that I can see why Matt would be quite specific in reaching out to other directors… I didn’t do that on purpose because this series is very grounded and very authentic and very character-driven…That meant the show was always going to have its own unique signature, and that’s really what I was going for while making it.”

I find it refreshing to know how seriously directors like Skogland are taking their projects and bringing their own unique flavor to the Marvel franchise without outside influence. While it’s not an unpardonable sin to ask for help from other filmmakers, sometimes it’s best in the final outcome of the story.
